The eight steps of a swing

SwingIQ cuts every swing into eight steps and compares it step by step with your best shot.

A swing takes less than two seconds. To compare two swings fairly, SwingIQ always looks at the same moment in both. That is why it cuts every swing into eight steps.

The steps

  1. Address (setup) — you stand ready at the ball.
  2. Takeaway — the club moves away from the ball.
  3. Halfway back — halfway through the backswing.
  4. Top of the swing — the highest point of the backswing.
  5. Halfway down — halfway through the downswing.
  6. Impact — the club hits the ball.
  7. Release — just after the ball.
  8. Finish — your finishing position.

Where you come across them

  • In the filmstrip — each step is a block. A coloured block is a step you get advice on.
  • In the advice — each difference belongs to one step. That way you know at which moment of the swing you did something differently.
  • In the 3D view — the model shows your posture at one step.

Not every step weighs the same

SwingIQ gives the steps an order of importance. You see it as a number in the filmstrip: 1 weighs heaviest. By default you only get advice for the most important steps, so that you work on one or two things at a time.

The numbers are off by default. You switch them on in Settings → Show importance per step.

Good to know

  • SwingIQ determines the steps itself while processing the video. You do not have to point anything out.
  • If a step was not found, there is no comparison for that step.
